A Resurrected Life

Text: Mat. 28:1-7 & 1 Corinthians 15:12-19

Introduction: What a difference resurrection Sunday makes! But the greatest day in history was the day that Jesus Christ came forth from the tomb. That was the first Easter.

We come to Church because Sunday is the day of His resurrection. Ever since Jesus burst out of the grave having conquered death and hell, Christians have worshiped on Sunday, the first day of the week.

What does Easter mean to you? Has it made a difference in your life?

I. A New Life – 2 Cor. 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

1.  New Beginning – A Fresh Start

  • (John 1:1-5) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.  (KJV)
  • (John 3:3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  (KJV)

2.  A Life With Meaning – With Hope

  • (1 Corinthians 15:19) If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.  (KJV)
  • (Titus 1:1-3) Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;  (KJV)

3. A Life Worth Living

  • (Psalms 128:2) For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.  (KJV)
  • (1 Timothy 4:8) For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.  (KJV)

II. A New Set Of Morals Or Standards To Live By

  •   Isa. 55:8 & 9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”

1. Not The Popular Way

  • (Ephesians 4:17-19) This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.  (KJV)

2. Not The Easy Way

  • (1 Kings 13:4-8) And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, which had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, Lay hold on him. And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him. The altar also was rent, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the LORD. And the king answered and said unto the man of God, Intreat now the face of the LORD thy God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored me again. And the man of God besought the LORD, and the king’s hand was restored him again, and became as it was before. And the king said unto the man of God, Come home with me, and refresh thyself, and I will give thee a reward. And the man of God said unto the king, If thou wilt give me half thine house, I will not go in with thee, neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place:  (KJV)

3. It’s The Right Way (Obedience to God)

  • (John 14:15) If ye love me, keep my commandments.  (KJV)
  • (Joshua 1:8) This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.  (KJV)
  • (Romans 5:19) For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.  (KJV)
  • (James 1:25) But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.  (KJV)

III. A New Set Of Goals

  • Mat. 6:20 & 21 “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

1.Living For Jesus Instead Of For Self

  • (Luke 9:23) And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.  (KJV)

The Way of the Cross is The Way of Death

  • Once You are Associated with the Cross – the End was Clear – DEATH!
  • The Cross was Never meant to: Be Pretty & Symbolize Hurt… Pain…
  • We’ve Beautified it – Into a Symbol of GOLD… Comfort… Polished…
  • In Today’s Times – The Cross would Be the Electric Chair… Lethal Injection… Gas Chamber… Firing Squad… Cyanide…

What does that sound like in 2016?

  • I must suffer & die… I’ll die from electric shock… Hanging…
  • If anyone is going to follow me – take up his electric chair… hangman’s noose – & FOLLOW ME!

2.  Focus On The Positive

Your faithfulness can be a positive influence in others lives.

  • (2 Peter 1:16) For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.  (KJV)

 3. Reaching The Lost – Fulfilling The Great Commission

  • (Mark 16:15) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  (KJV)
  • (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:  (KJV)
  • (Matthew 28:19-20) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: (KJV)

    IV. A New  Freedom

  • Rom. 6:22 & 23 “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

1. Free From Sin

  • (Romans 6:12-15) Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.  (KJV)

2. Free To Live Abundantly

  • (John 10:10) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.  (KJV)

2. Free To Live A Life of Joy and Happiness

  • (Psalms 105:43) And he brought forth his people with joy, and his chosen with gladness:  (KJV)
  • (John 16:33) These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.  (KJV)

Conclusion: What does the resurrection of Jesus mean to you? Have you accepted Him as your Lord and risen Savior? Are you living a resurrected life?
